Market Manager Duties

The market manager will proceed in a professional manner while working for the market. All conflicts will be taken out of the public eye and vending area. The manager is supervised and accountable to the Board of Directors. Any unresolved issues may be brought before the Board for a vote.

  1. Arrive before vendors to set-up the market.
  2. Maintain Market Manuel and keep copies of Food Vendor Permits along with applications, vendor phone lists, sign in sheets, Food and Safety Manuel, and receipt books. Handle and assist Health Department and other inspections. Set-up blockades at entrances. Vehicles are not allowed for safety reasons. Allow for ease of customer access, parking, passageways, emergency exits and handicap access. .
  3. Handle public relations, dispute resolution, questions from the vendors and customers.
  4. Maintain an information center with signs, brochures, news, and any promotions.
  5. Assign vendor placement, set-up entire market as a display, attractive to the public. Some may require shade or sun, the ability to leave early, some may prefer to set-up next to friends. Keep similar sale items separated. Keep full season/ all day vendors together to avoid large empty spaces later in the market day.
  6. Handle late vendors. Arrange placement by space available, otherwise turn away vendors if market is full.
  7. Ensure quality control; Monitor vendor's products for adherence to rules.
  8. Provide information on how to obtain proper licenses, permits, etc.
  9. Collect membership fees and 5% of gross sales for the day, Provide receipts, Collect weekly sign in/ sign out sheet. Collect signed liability waivers with applications to be given to the Treasurer or Secretary the day of that market.
  10. Have a first aid kit and extra water available.
  11. Direct special events with the help of the Board Liaison Officer. Hold raffles or drawings. Set up event tents and weights. Assist musicians as needed.
  12. Oversee break-down and clean-up of market. Store signs and information center brochures.
